Living along the Gulf coast offers the wonderful water and beach experiences with sea breezes. With these also comes tropical weather systems which require remaining aware and being prepared.

Small craft advisories and beach conditions are also included on this webpage. Before launching a boat or swimming in the Gulf waters, checking these can help visitors plan for a safe time on the water. Rip currents can be deadly for a swimmer who does not know the correct technique of swimming parallel to the beach until he is no longer in the current.
The “hurricane season” has officially opened which means residents should have an evacuation plan prepared. Visitors need to also follow updates of the tropical weather forecast and be prepared to leave the area in case of evacuation orders.
As of today, June 17, 2017, there are two tropical systems being watched. http://www.weather.gov/srh/tropical?office=crp provides two-day and five-day outlooks. Although most tropical disturbances do not develop to the hurricane stage, they often require small craft advisories and increase rip currents.
Checking these National Weather Service webpages before heading out for the day will help residents and visitors know if any plans need to be changed due to weather. With the many attractions and outdoor recreation activities available in the area, there is always something else to do.
