The Whooping Crane Festival is over and the 30th Annual Whooping Crane Strut will be happening Saturday, March 10. These are two signs the whooping cranes will soon be leaving to begin their spring migration in late March or early April as they return to their summer home in Wood Buffalo National Park, Canada. If you have not yet seen this large majestic crane, there are a few weeks left to make it happen.
Today, March 1, 2018, Goose Island State Park is open again for camping. The storms of Harvey produced damage so extensive, the park was closed to the public on August 26, 2017.
Hurricane Harvey’s track went through Fulton Harbor, tossing small boats and loose gear but MV Skimmer rode out the winds safely with minor damage. Known for birding tours each winter since 1987, this favorite excursion boat is continuing to welcome guests aboard.

For Mike Ley, it was just another walk on the beach on January 16, 2015, when one of the many bottles littering the sand caught his eye. This one was sealed and had a rolled piece of paper inside. Ley immediately knew he had found another Message in a Bottle (MIB) but he did not realize his life and a young lady’s life would become linked through technology for a never-ending story.
Identifying himself only as Alin from London, this visitor to the Aransas Pass community has been seen for the past few weeks along the streets leading to and around Conn Brown Harbor as he picks up trash.
