Spring has sprung in my coastal world, the North Bay area of the Coastal Bend. Texas is well known for its spring bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush with well-publicized Bluebonnet Trails. But there are many lesser known places to explore. Look for the other spring flowers and enjoy listening and watching the birds.

The Davilas returned to their Bahia Bay home in Rockport after Hurricane Harvey to see utter destruction. After salvaging what they could, they began the process of rebuilding their lives. Their pieces of art which they had enjoyed seeing in their home were stored for the time being.
Come for a visit
Ribbon cuttings and media announcements of a store, restaurant and hotel reopenings in the North Bay area are happening every week. My coastal world is planning to be “open for business” for the Memorial Day weekend and summer season.

Hit hard…run fast…turn left! The Major League Baseball Grapefruit and Cactus League play officially begins on February 23 for the thirty MLB teams but in South Texas, youth baseball is played year-round and Portland is welcoming tournament teams to the North Bay area.
Bringing history to life
Driving over the Harbor Bridge on Hwy 181, the “Blue Ghost” is a constant reminder of the Pacific Theater events of World War II. On Thursday, February 8, the USS Lexington Museum will welcome aboard Don Graves, a US Marine Corps veteran who was one of the thousands of Marines to land on Iwo Jima in 1945.

The communities in My Coastal World continue struggling with the effects of Hurricane Harvey but businesses, cities' staff and organizations are persevering to find the resources and time to hold holiday events enjoyed by young and old.
Rebuilding My Coastal World
Three months ago, residents of My Coastal World ventured out to see the destruction left behind by Hurricane Harvey. Today they spent the last day of a Thanksgiving weekend under sunny skies with a mild breeze. Some were fishing. Some were shopping. Some were saying goodbye to family and friends. Many had much to be thankful for while some continue to make hard decisions.

The devastation by Hurricane Harvey touched all My Coastal World, the North Bay area, even if unequally. Portland and Gregory, at the southern end, received less wind and storm surge than the communities slightly to their north. Rockport and Fulton experienced the eye wall of Harvey with Category 4 winds on August 25.
