Spring has sprung in my coastal world, the North Bay area of the Coastal Bend. Texas is well known for its spring bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush with well-publicized Bluebonnet Trails. But there are many lesser known places to explore. Look for the other spring flowers and enjoy listening and watching the birds.

Hurricane Harvey Recovery Continues If you are a homeowner whose residence was damaged and continues to need repair, grants are now available for reconstruction or rehabilitation.

The Davilas returned to their Bahia Bay home in Rockport after Hurricane Harvey to see utter destruction. After salvaging what they could, they began the process of rebuilding their lives. Their pieces of art which they had enjoyed seeing in their home were stored for the time being.

On August 25, 2017, Carolyn Sloan-Thibault was in Austin helping her grandchildren get ready for the new school year. She had been there for a week and had carefully followed the tropical weather forecasts for the Rockport area. When hurricane warnings were issued for Rockport, she called her husband, Ron Thibault, who said, “Don’t come home!”.

Russ Walker was providing internet technology services and Tres Rios was one of the companies he serviced. She kept breaking the internet, computers and phones and things so Russ had to visit the resort and repair them.

Christmas for kids endures

The communities in My Coastal World continue struggling with the effects of Hurricane Harvey but businesses, cities' staff and organizations are persevering to find the resources and time to hold holiday events enjoyed by young and old.

The devastation by Hurricane Harvey touched all My Coastal World, the North Bay area, even if unequally. Portland and Gregory, at the southern end, received less wind and storm surge than the communities slightly to their north. Rockport and Fulton experienced the eye wall of Harvey with Category 4 winds on August 25.
